When an agency's homepage says "Premier Partner," what has it earned, and should that change who you hire? The short answer: a Shopify Premier Partner badge shows Shopify has verified an agency's track record with larger, more complex merchants. It does not show that the agency fits your store, your budget or your timeline.
This guide explains what the tier is, how the Shopify partner program tiers compare, what Premier changes in day-to-day delivery, and how to treat the badge as one input in your decision rather than the whole of it.
What is a Shopify Premier Partner?
A Shopify Premier Partner is a service agency that has reached the fourth of Shopify's five partner tiers, above Registered and Select, and below Platinum. Shopify assigns the tier based on verified commercial impact with larger, more complex merchants, and records it against the agency's Partner ID.
The tier sits in Shopify's Service Partner track, which covers agencies, developers and consultants. Shopify describes Premier as consistent, high-impact results across larger and more complex merchant environments. In practice, a Shopify Premier Partner agency has recent, verified work on Shopify Plus or enterprise-level stores, not only on standard-plan builds.
How the Shopify partner program tiers work
The Shopify Partner Program has five levels, starting with Registered and moving up through Select, Plus, and Premier, with Platinum at the top. Registered is the starting point, and you earn every other tier through demonstrated commercial impact. Three things are measured:
- New referral and co-sell revenue: merchants the agency helped bring to Shopify.
- Existing merchant revenue: merchants the agency actively supports over time.
- Merchant acquisition: the number of net-new merchants brought to the platform.
Shopify takes the stronger of the two revenue measures and also requires continued merchant acquisition at each level. Two details matter to a buyer:
- The badge is a snapshot. Shopify reviews partner tiers four times a year, with changes taking effect on January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1.
- Credentials aren't part of the 2026 tiering. Shopify has waived credentials for 2026, so it evaluates only commercial activity this year.
Premier vs Plus vs Platinum: What Separates the Tiers
The table uses thresholds from Shopify's Q3 2026 tiering guide. Revenue is attributed to a partner through Shopify-verified involvement and is subject to Shopify's validation.

Platinum is the highest level on this scale. To reach it, an agency must clear higher revenue thresholds than the lower tiers and work with six or more Plus or Enterprise merchants. Plus can be reached partly on volume, through 40 or more standard-plan merchants. Premier and Platinum count only Plus and Enterprise merchants, within a two-year window. The Premier badge therefore cannot be held on small-store volume alone.
Shopify Plus Partner vs Premier Partner: Don't Mix up the Names
The "Plus" in "Plus Partner" is a tier name, not a statement about Shopify Plus expertise. Shopify Plus Partner vs Premier Partner compares two tiers, not two platforms. A Premier agency will normally work on Shopify Plus, since it must close Plus or Enterprise deals to qualify, but a Plus-tier agency may be strong on Shopify Plus too.
So is Premier "better"? It indicates greater verified scale and complexity, not a guaranteed better fit. If you're specifically looking for a Shopify Plus agency in India, our roundup of Shopify Plus partners in India covers shortlist-level detail. This guide stays on what the tier itself means.
What Premier changes in day-to-day delivery
We hold the Premier tier at Seventh Triangle, so we write this section from inside it. We don't discuss the program's confidential terms, but three things matter in practice.
-
Escalation paths. When a platform-level issue threatens a launch or migration, priority access to Shopify's teams gives us a route beyond the standard support queue. It doesn't guarantee a fix, but it shortens the path to the right person.
-
Co-sell. On enterprise opportunities, we can work alongside Shopify's own sales team, which tends to bring technical scoping conversations forward before a contract is signed.
- Success manager access. A named contact at Shopify helps us plan around roadmap changes and platform updates that affect a client's build.
Premier does not change how well a theme is built, how carefully redirects are mapped, or whether integrations hold up under load. That still depends on the team assigned to your project.
This is why the tier's complexity signal matters. A replatform such as BSC's move from Magento to Shopify Plus involves catalogue structure, URL continuity, integrations and checkout decisions all at once.
For Ferns N Petals in Saudi Arabia, we rebuilt fnp.sa on Shopify Plus with a headless Hydrogen front end. We developed iOS and Android apps in React Native, giving the brand a scalable gifting platform for the KSA market. Our Shopify and Shopify Plus development practice is built around this kind of work.
Is a Premier Partner worth it? Sometimes yes, sometimes not
It matters most when:
-
You're replatforming from Magento, Salesforce Commerce Cloud or a custom stack.
-
You run multiple markets, currencies or storefronts.
-
Your store depends on ERP, OMS or PIM integrations.
-
A delayed or failed launch would carry real revenue risk.
-
You want a Shopify enterprise agency that can involve Shopify's sales or solutions teams in the decision.
It matters less when:
-
You're on a Basic, Grow or Advanced plan with a standard theme and light customisation.
-
The project is contained: a theme refresh or app build.
-
Budget is tight. A Select or Plus-tier agency, or a smaller team, may deliver better value for a simpler scope.
That last point is our opinion, not a program fact. A larger scope usually calls for more structured delivery, and a smaller scope often gets more attention from a lean team.
How to choose a Shopify partner beyond the badge
Use the badge as a filter, then check the substance:
-
Confirm the tier at the source. In the Shopify Partner Directory, you can filter Premier listings by tier and location. Remember that tiers update quarterly.
-
Ask for comparable work. Look for the platform they migrated from, the integrations they built, and the markets they served. Our stores we've built page shows how we present this.
- Ask who will do the work. A tier belongs to the agency, so ask for named leads on your project.
- Ask what Premier changes for your project. A good agency can explain escalation, co-sell and planning in concrete terms without disclosing confidential program terms.
- Be careful with the phrase "certified Shopify partner." Shopify's tiers don't award certification, and credentials aren't evaluated for tiering in 2026.
Reading the badge as evidence, not a verdict
A Shopify Premier Partner badge tells you an agency has recent, Shopify-verified work with complex merchants and a deeper working relationship with Shopify. It doesn't replace checking fit, team and references.
If you're weighing a replatform or an enterprise build, the team behind the work is happy to talk through scope and whether the tier matters for your project.
Frequently Asked Questions About Shopify Premier Partner
1. Is a Premier Partner better than a Plus Partner?
Premier is the tier above Plus, so it signals bigger commercial results with larger, more complicated merchants. That doesn't make it the right choice for every project. For a mid-size store, a good Plus agency can do the job well. Premier matters more once your scope is enterprise-level. Pick the tier that fits your store's complexity, then review the team and ask for references.
2. Does it matter if an agency is Premier? What would I actually get?
Mostly, it changes how the agency deals with Shopify. Premier agencies get priority access to Shopify's teams when a platform issue needs to be escalated. They can also co-sell on qualifying enterprise deals and have a Partner Success Manager. None of this affects how they write code, so your project's quality still depends on the people assigned to it.
3. Which Shopify Premier Partners in India are worth talking to?
Honest answer: there's no official "best" list. Shopify doesn't rank its partners, and Premier is a rare tier in India, so you're picking from a short list.
Start with Shopify's Partner Directory and filter for India and the Premier tier. Then look past the badge. Has the agency built stores like yours, whether that's fashion, beauty, home or B2B? What do their clients say? Can you speak to one or two of them?
The badge tells you an agency has a solid Shopify track record. It doesn't tell you whether they'll pick up the phone when your checkout breaks mid-sale. That's worth checking before you sign.
Not sure how to shortlist? Talk to us. We'll tell you what we think, even if the answer isn't us. No demands. No promises. No strings attached.
4. How can I verify that an agency is really a Shopify Premier Partner?
Look the agency up in the Shopify Partner Directory. A badge on its website isn't enough. Then ask the agency to confirm its current tier. Tiers are reassessed every quarter, so that an old badge may be outdated.
5. What is the difference between a Shopify Premier Partners and a certified Shopify partners?
People often mix these up. A tier reflects an agency's commercial impact on Shopify, and Shopify has waived credentials for 2026 tiering. "Certified" usually refers to credentials held by individual team members. An agency can have a tier without advertising any certifications, so ask about both.
6. How often does a partner's tier change?
Shopify updates tiers on January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1, using rolling performance windows. An agency can move up or down at any of these updates, so treat the badge as a snapshot. The next update after this article's publication date is October 1, 2026.
7. Is there any Shopify Premier Partner in India?
Yes, there are. Shopify's partner tiers depend on the results an agency delivers for merchants, not where it's located, so Premier Partners exist in many countries, including India. The Seventh Triangle is one of them. To compare Shopify Premier Partners in India, open the Shopify Partner Directory and filter by tier and location. Then look at what each agency has built in your category, because the Premier badge alone won't tell you whether they're the right fit.
8. Does hiring a Premier Partner cost more?
The tier doesn't set your price. Your scope does: integrations, markets, customisation and timeline. Premier agencies tend to take on bigger, more complex projects, so their typical engagements can cost more. When you compare proposals, look at deliverables, team and process, and don't assume the tier drives the fee.
